The aim of this study was to evaluate critically available data on the 2016-10-19 Bosniak classification of renal cysts is a radiologic classification system for kidney cysts. It originally consisted of four categories (I, II, III, IV). A subsequent modification turned it into a five category system: Category Percent malignant Management Radiological Characteristics Bosniak I 0% no follow-up necessary Simple cyst Results: Only 11 patients (10.6%) were symptomatic (one Bosniak IIF, six III and four IV). Only one had renal cell carcinoma (RCC) on final histology, whereas the others (n = 10) had benign lesions. An overall pathological result was obtained in 71 masses (62.8%) (two Bosniak II, three IIF, 27 III and 39 IV). In 1986, Bosniak proposed a classification system designed to separate cystic renal masses into surgical and nonsurgical categories by analysis of specific CT features. He elaborated further on this topic in later publications and commentary [ 2 , 3 , 4 ].

Slightly atypical upper pole cyst consistent with a Bosniak type 2F cyst. 1 article features images from this case Bosniak classification system of renal cystic masses 1996-07-01 The results of our study serve to underscore some limitations of the Bosniak classification system because most of our category II and all of our category III lesions were malignant, suggesting that minimally complex cystic renal masses may contain malignant cells. 2021-02-15 2020-12-07 This 50-case eBook was designed to provide radiologists, urologists, nephrologists, oncologists, fellows, residents, and any other physician who takes care of patients with renal disease an intense training in the use and interpretation of the updated Bosniak classification of cystic renal lesions.… Bosniak 2F type of kidney cysts is one category of the Bosniak classification system of renal cystic masses. The classification system puts renal (kidney) cysts into five categories, depending on the findings on CT. Besides Bosniak 2F, the other four include: Bosniak 1, Bosniak 2, Bosniak 3, and Bosniak 4.

Bosniak III and IV type cysts are the surgical lesions. • The Bosniak system is used to classify cystic renal masses seen on imaging • Only a few studies have correlated cyst classification using the Bosniak system with histological findings after removal of kidneys at surgery.

BACKGROUND: The Bosniak classification is a diagnostic tool for the differentiation of cystic changes in the kidney. The process of categorizing renal cysts may be challenging, involving a series of decisions that may affect the final diagnosis and clinical outcome such as surgical management. Bosniak classification system. Background Benign renal cysts are common in the general population and are detected on CT in up to 50% of patients older than 50 years.

While the Bosniak classification was originally developed for contrast-enhanced CT, the European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (EFSUMB) proposed a CEUS-adapted Bosniak categorization system in 2020 in order to overcome differences in imaging specifics and improve the diagnostic accuracy of CEUS in characterizing cystic renal lesions . 2018-04-12 Moreover, for six lesions, solid component was detected by CEUS but not by CT. Conclusion: CEUS might better visualize septa number, septa and/or wall thickness, solid component and the enhancement of some renal cystic masses than CT, resulting in upgrade of Bosniak classification … Background: This study aims to evaluate the potential benefits of structured reporting (SR) compared to conventional free-text reporting (FTR) in contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) of cystic renal lesions, based on the Bosniak classification. Methods: Fifty patients with cystic renal lesions who underwent CEUS were included in this single-center study.
It is comprised of five lesion categories.
